The Potter

This evening, our house fellowship group is gathering to enjoy eating momos together. This yummy food is like a steamed dumpling with fillings of either meat or veggies. Often, people enjoy making them together, steaming them, and then eating – dipping in a soup or spicy chutney. It is one of the foods that I miss eating since my diagnosis of Celiac disease almost 9 years ago now.

The pan of momos after everyone had taken some… it was empty at the end!

Things often don’t go according to plan in our lives! Learning to adjust to a new diet was really only a small thing, but it can seem big at times! Every day we make our plans…..and sometimes at the end of the day, we realize we really hadn’t been in charge at all – and that none of our plans had happened!

I thought about a recent visit we made to the local “mela” or fair that was held in our town. We were walking through just having a look, when I noticed a potter and asked if we could watch him make a container. He took his clay from a bag, added some dirt and sand into it, and pounded it into the shape he wanted to put onto the wheel.

He then had to start the wheel turning – it looked like a huge, old wagon wheel on its side – and he balanced it on a pointed stick and got it turning. After he put the lump of clay on the wheel, he used another stick to make it turn faster.

As that wheel balanced and spun, this master potter was able to shape the previously ugly lump of clay into a pot which I purchased to take home to put some flowers in!

Many days I feel like the ugly lump of clay – and I am thankful for our Master Potter who uses everything that comes into our lives to shape us into the beautiful container or vessel that He is creating us to be.

Whether we are struggling to help people who don’t have enough money, or trying to encourage those who are ill and seem to have no hope, or looking at a hazy, sunny, cloudless sky praying for rain, God is using all those circumstances to grow us and mold us.

We are so thankful for you who pray for us and read our letters. We appreciate you! We are happy to say we got a rain shower yesterday which has made us and the garden happier! Blessings!
